Domestic violence

Mrs. Pan Kim Yoeurn is a Reflect Circle member having joined for about two years. Her husband, Ok Phen is 42 years old. Pan Kim Yoeurn’s family usually had a problem of fighting over ideas when she wanted to talk about plans for the family with her husband.

Kim Yoeurn tried a few times to convince her husband to not go out to drink alcohol with friends, to watch chicken fighting, play cards and instead to stay home to help the family in growing vegetables or taking care of cattle but he did not want to listen to her.

One day she has had the same problem with her husband she wanted to solve this problem; she asked for help from the Reflect supervisor and the village leader to try to negotiate with her husband.

The Reflect supervisor and village leader explained to Ok Phen, her husband, that when violence happens often in the family it can affect many things in the family like lacking of good morales with neighbours, lack of relationship to others, making the children feel sad, low family values on treating each other, low family economics, lack of love to the children.

Since then, Ok Phen has changed his attitude from not going out with his friends to drink alcohol or to have a look to chicken fighting, and play cards. He stays home often and helps the children to look after the cattle and started to grow something around house.
