THE CHALLENGE OF ATTITUDE CHANGING
IN
RECEIVING NEW METHOD OF MR. YOU KY
This story is about a Mr. You Ky from Rom Chek village,Romony commune, Preah Vihear Province. For the last 20 years, Mr. Ky has been doing rice farming by traditional way. Now he has changed to a new method called RIP. He had never used this method before. This change came about because of ADRA Cambodia using a method called PEA which they have been doing in the communities. ADRA Cambodia taught Mr. Ky the new technologies and also sent him on field trip to learn and see what other farmers are using successfully.
ADRA Cambodia also worked closely with him in using the RIP method. To date, his model field which is composed of 11 paddies has had very good success and satisfied. His neighbors have stopped making fun of him and are now praising his method which has made him very happy. Every time the community has a meeting, Mr. Ky talks enthusiastically about his success and the new method and he tells people that if they are interested in doing his method, he will lend them seed which they can repay when next harvest is coming. Because of Mr. Ky’s good experience with RIP, next year he will plant rice with all his land by using the new method...
How did ADRA Cambodia help with this change :
ADRA Cambodia has been training and doing extension about RIP method with Mr. Ky. They have also sent him on field trips and work with him in the field.
Why was this change important :
Because it helped him to have the courage to use the new technology even when his neighbors were making fun of him. The RIP method helped him to get a very high yield using less seed than he normally would.
