Tarpaulin Donation

On November 13, 2006 the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Cambodia donated 1,690 tarpaulins to the Phnom Penh City Hall to be used for flood disaster assistance happening every year in different parts of the city.

On behalf of the Phnom Penh City Hall, Excellency Mar Churn, Vice Mayor stated, “this donation comes to us on the right time as we are needing these tarpaulins to replace those given to the families affected by flooding. And this donation will go directly to those families who really need the assistance.” He also added “whenever we deliver these tarpaulins families we will invite ADRA Cambodia to join in the distribution as these have been donated from ADRA.”

Excellency Mar Churn expressed his thanks to ADRA Cambodia who understands the needs of Cambodia people very well, and stated that he wants the Municipal City to be a good partner with ADRA Cambodia in the future.

To recognize the great donation from the ADRA Cambodia, the Mayor’s Office in Phnom Penh City Hall presented a certificate letter of appreciation to Mark Schwisow, ADRA Cambodia Country Director.

ADRA Cambodia is pleased to be able to make this contribution thanks to people in Korea,” Mark responded. ADRA Korea sent the donation to Cambodia several years ago as disaster preparedness materials and they have been kept in storage with many distributed over the years. As there have not recently been needs for these in large national disaster response or in the ADRA provincial target areas it was chosen at this time to partner with the Phnom Penh municipality to identify critical needs around the urban areas. ADRA is continuing with plans and resources for disaster preparedness to assist in the provincial project areas where it works and in the event of a large national disaster, but at this time ADRA has decided that these tarps would better benefit neighbors in Phnom Penh who are needing them now and recognizes that the Phnom Penh City Hall is better situated to undertake the needs assessment and distribute the materials. ADRA is pleased to work with the City Hall in making the donation today to those in need.”
